| Plastic embedded undecalcified,
thin sections of iliac crest cut at 5 μ
showing part of the cortex and a small portion of the
endosteum.. In the middle is an evolving secondary osteon,
transected longitudinally, showing a cutting cone with several mutinucleated
osteoclastsat its resoption front, and a closing cone containing red osteoid seams lined
with cuboidal osteoblasts. At the lower portion of the resorption front is the edosteal
surface with osteoid seams. Note that the matrix is unstained. Villanueva Mineralized Bone Stain 100x.
| This is the same picture as figure 1,
but taken under flourescence micropscopy
showing two-color tetracycline markers
given to the patient 11 days apart. The first label is
signified by the green color, while the second label is golden yellow.
Note that all the osteoid seams have flourescent labels, suggesting
active mineralization during labeling. Villanueva Mineralized Bone Stain 100x.
